This day is based on the book <strong><em>Farmer Boy<\/em><\/strong> by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It is recommended (not required) that you read the book prior to the event.Activities open 10am-12pmGrounds close at 2 pmCome and go style stations\u00a0<strong>Due to popular demand, this event will be offered two days this Spring. <\/strong><strong>Choose ONE day to attend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"block-2b7dd4a3-652d-425a-afe1-8af5081373bd\">Students will learn how to do farm chores including laundry, plowing and planting a field, feeding the chickens, rug beating, and milking Buttermilk the Cow (our mechanical milking machine).<\/li>\n<li>Visit the Blacksmith and learn how he turns metal into useful products.<\/li>\n<li>Meet the farm animals: pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, Poncho the donkey and more!<\/li>\n<li>Explore the Schoolhouse.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy a wagon ride around the farm!<\/li>\n<li>Learn teamwork as you form your own bucket brigade at Pittman Creek.<\/li>\n<li>Tour the Young House with <em>The Fabric of Our Lives<\/em> exhibit. This exhibit showcases artifacts that were used to process wool and cotton into cloth.<\/li>\n<li>Take part in a scavenger hunt across the 4-acre farmstead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wilson House will not be open for this event.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: var(--tec-font-size-4); background-color: var(--tec-color-background-events);\">Gates open at 10am<\/strong>\u00a0for ticket holders.\u00a0Pack a lunch or snack and enjoy a picnic on the farm! <strong>Grounds open until 2pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets must be purchased in advance, so we can safely manage attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Purchase your ticket today as events often sell out. If sold out, no tickets will be available the day of the event or at the door.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$12 per participating child (2-16 years old)<\/li>\n<li>Infants or siblings under 2 years old and NOT participating do not need a ticket.<\/li>\n<li>$5 per adult (17 years and up)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Museum Members\u00a0<\/strong>get one adult ticket FREE with purchase of a child\u2019s ticket.<\/li>\n<li>All tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once ticket purchase is completed, you will receive an email confirmation. If you do not receive your tickets, check your spam\/junk box. Email education@heritagefarmstead.org for any issues or questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Visitors may park along Pitman Drive or in the lot on the southside of BT Furnishings. Do not park at Chase Bank. Violators may be towed. Please do not park in front of houses on Gardengrove Court.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weather and Cancellations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Events are held, rain or shine. Activities take place outside on our 4-acre farmstead.\u00a0 Be prepared for possible muddy conditions if it has recently rained. Check the weather the day of the event to make sure you and your children are dressed comfortably for the outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>If a program is cancelled due to severe weather, <strong>the decision will be made by 8am on the day of the program. <\/strong>An email will be sent to the address connected with your tickets. A note will be added to the event page as well.
